At Care Wildlife, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we are dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating injured and orphaned wildlife, with the ultimate goal of releasing them back into their natural habitat and educating the public on the importance of coexistence.
We provide a wide range of services to the animals in our care, including rescue, rehabilitation, and release. We also offer educational programs and community outreach to promote wildlife conservation and coexistence. Serving Fredericksburg, VA and surrounding counties.
Care Wildlife works closely with local and national organizations to further our mission and provide the best care possible for the animals in our care. Our partnerships include wildlife rehabilitation centers, veterinary clinics, and conservation groups.
Seek expert advice or assistance before handling wildlife, unless the animal is in life threatening situation. Use extreme caution as wildlife can be dangerous and carry disease. NEVER HANDLE WILDLIFE WITH YOUR BARE HANDS.
An orphaned animal has been separated from its mother and cannot survive on its own. An injured animal has physical injuries that require medical attention.
Reuniting with the mother is the top priority. Attempt to use species specific, baby animal sounds (available on Google) to encourage the mother to return for the baby. You can place the baby in a small cardboard box where it was found and attempt to keep warm. Rice socks work great!
Keep the animal in a warm, dark, and secure place. DO NOT FEED THE ANIMAL ANYTHING, INCLUDING WATER! This can do more harm than good. Reach out to a licensed rehabilitator in your area.
Immediately contact a licensed rehabilitator in your area. Try to keep the animal in a warm, dark, and secure place. DO NOT FEED THE ANIMAL ANYTHING, INCLUDING WATER! This can do more harm than good. Be especially careful with injured wildlife, as they may be more aggressive in their condition.
Every wildlife species has different and specific care needs. In most states, it is illegal to possess wildlife without a license. The internet is full of mixed and incorrect information about caring for wildlife. Licensed rehabilitators not only have the proper knowledge but the necessary resources (including veterinarian access) to successfully rehab and release wildlife.
